God over Nation, Grace over Pride
A man who has instilled fear, hatred and the desire for revenge into the minds of people throughout the world has been killed. Watching the news, I have noticed that Americans appear to be celebrating. In some ways this celebration is understandable, but as Christians, is this really how we should respond? I’m sure this event, in some way, brings closure to the surviving family, friends, and countrymen of the victims of the events of September 11th, 2001. I am also sure that it will not bring an end to terrorism as we know it.
This world is full of evil and destruction in many forms. Heinous acts of incivility are inspired by many different things, even religious beliefs. It is not the substance of a particular faith that brings on these acts, but the interpretation of that substance. Even in the name of Christianity have people bombed abortion clinics, protested at the funerals of soldiers, and even bombed a federal building. It’s easy to see that people sometimes become overzealous about things they feel very strongly about.
Americans, in general, hold a tremendous amount of pride in their country. I, myself am very thankful to be an American; to live in a country where I am free to worship as I see fit. But I think we need to be very careful with our use of the word pride. Our pride can easily be viewed as arrogance by people who do not share or understand our perspective. Proverbs 11:12 (NKJV) says “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” I think of this when I think of Mexicans, who live in a country where there is a tremendous amount of corruption in their government, trying so desperately to get into the United States where they can attempt to experience the life that we experience, only to be treated as outcasts and mocked by people who don’t want them here. This is hypocritical thinking in that almost all Americans are descendants of immigrants.
Please don’t get me wrong. I believe that Osama Bin Laden was a terrible person who caused a lot of people a tremendous amount of pain and suffering. It is also my understanding that when asked to surrender, he refused and retaliated. Knowing this, I am not terribly disappointed in his demise. But I refuse to celebrate his death, or the death of anyone else for that matter. Proverbs 24:17 (NKJV) says “Do not rejoice when your enemies fall, and do not let your heart be glad when they stumble.”
I am forever grateful to the men and women who so bravely risk their lives serving our nation and protecting what this nation stands for. I am even more grateful for Jesus and the sacrifice that he made on the cross for our salvation. As Americans who are also Christians, I believe that we need to make sure that we put God before nation and act accordingly. Additionally, I don’t know exactly what series of events took place in Osama Bin Laden’s life to set him on the path that he followed, but I do know that God created him just as He did each of us. And I believe that if Bin Laden was hanging on that cross beside Jesus, and if he chose to ask for Jesus to remember him when He came into his kingdom, then Jesus would have said, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43 NIV) Let us take this opportunity to test the strength we have in our ability to obey God by exhibiting love and humility in our actions.
On February 18th by a vote of 240-185, the House passed Rep. Mike Pence’s (R-IN) amendment to strip Planned Parenthood of its federal funding.
Right now there is pro-life proposal by Rep. Bobby Franklin in Georgia that would require women who have miscarriages to file a police report to ensure there was no wrong doing on the mothers part.
While if passed all of these measures would be a victory for taxpayers and a victory for life, they still won’t fully protect unborn fetuses.
Let’s face it, protection for the unborn has to start in the womb. That’s why we’re urging you to contact your representatives today and ask them to support the Firearms for Fetuses Program. The program that will put firearms directly in the hands of the unborn because we want all of God’s perfect creations armed and dangerous.
Are we suggesting that the federal government subsidize the Firearms for Fetuses program? Well of course not! That would be socialism. What we ARE suggesting is that fetuses be issued cash vouchers that they will be able to take to any gun or sporting good store to go toward the purchase of a firearm along with a free womb protection course.
